How's this for first-novel accolades?
Matthew Thomas's We Are Not Ourselves was shortlisted for both the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize and the James Tait Black Prize, longlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, and nominated for the Folio Prize. It was named a Notable Book of the Year by The New York Times, one of the 50 best fiction books of the year by The Washington Post, one of the ten best fiction books of the year by Entertainment Weekly... and one of Janet Maslin's ten favorite books of the year in The New York Times. Mr. Thomas, a native New Yorker and graduate of the University of Chicago, will discuss his novel, also one of our own favorites of the past year. A multigenerational story of an Irish-American family, it spans the American Century, particularly the promise of domestic bliss and economic prosperity that captured hearts and minds after WWII. The book is just out in paperback.
