Fans of thrilling true crime stories of gangsters and lawmen won't want to miss this evening with Joe Urschel, executive director of the National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington D.C. and a founding editor of USA Today. His new book is The Year of Fear: Machine Gun Kelly and the Manhunt That Changed the Nation. It's the story of the 20,000-mile, 16-state chase after one of the most celebrated gangsters of the 1930s -- and a desperate Justice Department bureaucrat named J. Edgar Hoover who used the case to launch the FBI.
