Book club season underway

Last night we had the first Book Stall book club meeting of the season. Suzanne Hales led a lively discussion on Abraham Verghese's Cutting for Stone, which was probably our favorite book of the summer. Coming up next Wednesday, Rachel Jacobsohn will lead a discussion of John Williams' classic but underappreciated 1965 novel Stoner. Recently reissued by the wonderful New York Review Books press, Stoner has been generating a lot of buzz lately. Morris Dickstein, in his New York Times book review, had this to say:

"John Williams’s “Stoner” is something rarer than a great novel — it is a perfect novel, so well told and beautifully written, so deeply moving, that it takes your breath away."

It's hard to find higher praise than that. We hope you'll join us from 9:30-11:00 a.m. There is a $5 charge for all book club meetings in exchange for a fully redeemable gift certificate. Call 847-446-8880 for details, or click on this link: http://thebookstall.com/bookclub.html
