Celebrating Children’s Book Week

In celebration of Children’s Book Week, The Book Stall at Chestnut Court welcomes a quartet of authors: Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Matthew Cordell, Aaron Renier, and Janice M. Del Negro for a booksigning and a discussion of their work.  The Children’s Book Council will be giving away free canvas tote bags (containing books and classroom materials provided by The Book Stall) to audience members as long as supplies last.

Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s most recent books for young people include Bedtime for Mommy, The Wonder Book, Yes Day, Spoon, and Duck! Rabbit! The School Library Journal says of Bedtime for Mommy: “In this reversal of roles in the bedtime routine, a mother tries all the familiar stall tactics when her daughter announces, ‘Time for bed, Mommy!’ She tries everything from a plea for five more minutes to a final drink of water and the door left slightly ajar.

Matthew Cordell’s most recent book, a collaboration with writer Rachel Vail, is the middle grade novel Justin Case: School, Drool, and Other Daily Disasters.  In a starred review, Kirkus calls Justin Case “absolutely marvelous,” while Publishers Weekly says of Trouble Gum, “Working with a stripped-down palette of black, white, red and bubblegum pink, Cordell's first solo effort evokes irrepressible boyhood with laughs throughout.”

Janice M. Del Negro’s most recent book is Passion and Poison: Tales of Shape-Shifters, Ghosts, and Spirited Women. a collection of gothic stories with women protagonists. Del Negro is an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois.

Cartoonist and illustrator Aaron Renier’s graphic novel Spiral Bound has received rave reviews all over the place. Lemony Snickett, author of The Series of Unfrotunate Events, says, “If you want anything more from a graphic novel than a noble elephant, a shadowy mystery, an intrepid bird, an underwater monster, an impeccable rabbit, an underground tram, a devoted dog, an aquatic sculptor, a corrupt mayor, a maze of secrets, a secret maze and not one but two performances by my new favorite musical ensemble Kodiak & Calico, you should be ashamed of yourself."
