Announcing a Special Author Event
Distinguished military historian and journalist
Sir Max Hastings
will appear on
Thursday, November 14
at a noon luncheon at the
University Club of Chicago
He will be speaking about his new book Catastrophe 1914: Europe Goes to War.
Published on the eve of the centenary of the start of World War I, this
new history seeks to explain the war's outbreak and what befell
millions of men and women during its first months. It describes the
dramatic stretch from the breakdown of diplomacy to the battles that
marked the frenzied first year before the war bogged down in the
trenches.
Max Hastings is the author of more than twenty books, most recently Inferno: The World at War, 1939-1945. He spent his early career as a foreign correspondent for BBC TV and various newspapers, then as editor of Britain's Evening Standard and Daily Telegraph. He has received numerous awards for both his books and his journalism.
