Celebrating the Freadom to Read
September 21 - 27
The Book Stall is joining bookstores, libraries, and schools across the country to observe Banned Books Week, the
national book community's annual celebration of the freedom to read.
Along with hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the country,
we're drawing attention to the problem of censorship with a window
display highlighting some of the books that have been censored through
the years--and lived on to become timeless classics. (Think, for
example, of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird.)
Please drop by the store and stop for a moment at our front window to view many more titles banned once upon a time. To see an interesting list of books that have been challenged through the years, click here for the American Booksellers for Free Expression (ABFFE) website. The site also has other great resources. Also worth a look: the official Banned Books Week website here to see the 10 most challenged titles of 2013, and more.
