Meet Bill Clegg, author of "Did You Ever Have a Family"

A Harbinger of Good Things to Come

We're delighted that the September IndieNEXT List of "Great Reads from Booksellers You Trust" showcases a book by an author we'll be welcoming to the store in just a few weeks. It's Did You Ever Have a Family by Bill Clegg, and it's one of the season's most anticipated new novels. Not only that, the book is longlisted for the 2015 Man Booker Prize. Bill Clegg will be making his only Chicago-area appearance at The Book Stall on Tuesday, September 22, at 7 pm. (He stops in Winnetka just after appearing at the esteemed Elliott Bay Bookstore in Seattle and just before traveling on to Denver's Tattered Cover.)

Did You Ever Have a Family, which goes on sale next Tuesday, September 1, is the story of a woman whose life is devastated when on the eve of her daughter's wedding a shocking disaster takes the lives of her daughter, her daughter's fiancé, her ex-husband, and her boyfriend. The book has received starred reviews across the board.  Kirkus Reviews, for example, called it "an attempt to map how the unbearable is borne, elegantly written and bravely imagined."
