Chicago's Sam Zell, Chairman of Equity Group Investments, and New York-based, British-born writer  Vicky Ward speak on the topic "Tall Stories: Myth and Reality in Commercial Real Estate."  Ms. Ward is the author of the new book The Liar's Ball: The Extraordinary Saga of How One Building Broke the World's Toughest Tycoons, painting an often scandalous picture of the giants who owned the New York skyline until their empires came crumbling down in the 2008 financial crisis. A former contributing editor to Vanity Fair, Ms. Ward is also the author of the bestseller The Devil's Casino, about the fall of Lehman Brothers.

His talk is based on his new book, " Future Crimes: Everything Is Connected, Everyone is Vulnerable and What We Can Do About It, which takes readers into the dark side of technological innovation and the unintended consequences of our connected world.

A New Year, a New Partnership: The Chicago Council on Global Affairs

The Book Stall starts the new year with an important new partnership with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, one of the country's
oldest and most prominent international affairs organizations. Independent and nonpartisan, the Council hosts public programs featuring world leaders and experts with diverse views on a wide range of global topics. Of course, this means authors, and we are proud to be the bookseller at the Council's book programs.

These author events are open to the public, and Book Stall guests are able to attend paying the $10 member fee instead of the $20 nonmember fee.  Register on the Council's website at www.thechicagocouncil.org (go to "Events" and select the program you want to attend, create an account, and enter the code BOOKSTALL to receive the membership price).
