Come by for the New Indie Next List

We have the new October Indie Next list at the counter, this month featuring The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion on the cover. We predict major success for this hilarious and quirky romance, out soon, about a brilliant geneticist searching for the "perfect" wife and the woman, the antithesis of his image, who unexpectedly enters his life.

 

 

Also included in this month's list is Quiet Dell (also out soon) by Jayne Anne Phillips, who'll be the guest at our popular Women Writer's Series on Thursday, October 17 (noon luncheon at Avli). Quiet Dell, already a favorite among our staff, is a novel based on the true story of the 1931 murder of a Chicago widow and her three children by a well-mannered man who first promises to cherish, protect, and marry her and care for her children.

Jamaican-born author Gillian Royes, who currently lives in the U.S. Virgin Islands, talks about her new novel, 

The Man Who Turned Both Cheeks.

It's the second in a mystery series featuring Shad, a Jamaican bartender-turned-detective. It's a sequel to her debut novel, The Goat Woman of Largo Bay.

Just like their book, their own story is a good one! Local writer Loretta Nyhan (right) and Connecticut author Suzanne Hayes (left) wrote a book together long-distance before ever meeting in person -- a circumstance mirrored in their novel

I'll Be Seeing You. It's the story of two very different women who bond through letters exchanged between their homes in New England and Iowa while their husbands are away serving in World War II.

Women Writers Series continues

Up next on the Women Writer Series:

Acclaimed author Alice Hoffman will join The Book Stall's Women Writers Series for a luncheon,

and an evening event in the store. 

Hoffman will present her newest novel, The Dovekeepers, which tells the story of four women whose lives intersect in the desperate days of the siege of Masada. The book is being described as Hoffman's "masterpiece... a tour de force of imagination and research."
