Coming Soon to This Bookstore Near You 

We're delighted to host a "Mockingjay Meetup" this Saturday, November 14, from 2 - 4 pm, celebrating the upcoming release of the final movie in the series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. We're partnering with Stacey Canova of Page Turners Blog to give fans of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games books and the movies  a chance to discuss both forms of media (Who did it best? How would you have adapted the books to film?) as well as win prizes. We'll have a drawing for free passes to an advance screening of the movie, a complete set of Hunger Games books, and lots more. Our thanks to Page Turners Blog, Lionsgate Films, and Scholastic Books for contributing to the awesome prize pool and maximizing the fun. Join us at the Skokie Public Library to hear three of today's most popular young adult authors talk about their writing and their books. Ally Condie (left) is a former English teacher and the author of the popular Matched series and the YA novel Atlantia. Jandy Nelson (middle) won this year's Printz Award for her book I'll Give You the Sun, and Meg Wolitzer (right) is the author of the widely acclaimed Belzhar. Glenview writer Natalie Tilghman and co-author Bill Sommer will be here to discuss and sign their new young adult novel,  A 52-Hertz Whale. It's the story -- told through the exchange of conversational e-mails -- about a high school freshman who is worried that the young humpback whale he tracks online has separated from its pod.

We're delighted to host awesome young adult authors Ally Carter (left) and Elizabeth Eulberg for an after-school program of conversation, refreshments, and book-signing. Ally writes books about spies, thieves, and teenagers, and her new novel is All Fall Down. Elizabeth has a highly anticipated new novel, We Can Work It  Out, which continues the adventures of Penny Lane from her earlier book, The Lonely Hearts Club.

October 5th at 1 pm, our Children's Department starts off a very busy month of activities with young adult author Barbara Shoup, discussing her historical novel, Looking for Jack Kerouac. 

 It's the tale of a boy who discovers Kerouac's "On the Road" while on a 1964 school trip to New York City and begins to question the life he will lead after high school.

Our guest today is Kevin Emerson, the author of the middle grade novel The Fellowship for Alien Detection, and the YA dystopian series The Atlanteans. His new book, Exile, is the realistic story of a young woman who manages a high school rock band. Kevin brings his years of alt-rocker experience to this book -- and he might just have his guitar along for his visit.

Stories of Unhappily Ever Afters

On Saturday, April 12, 2014, The Book Stall and the Arlington Heights Memorial Library are partnering to present a powerhouse quartet of YA authors in a program called "Testing Dark Waters: Stories of Unhappily Ever Afters." Hear Joelle Charbonneau (The Testing), Kat Falls (Inhuman), Elizabeth Fama (Plus One), and Demitria Lunetta (In the After) tell us how they create the dark, thrilling worlds that take their readers on adventures that are beyond their imagination but are closer to real life than they might want to think.  Kids can learn where the authors find their ideas, what it's like to get published, and some behind-the-scenes details of their novels'  creation.
